With that being said, I am happy for people to contribute code changes, if anyone wants to fork the code they must include links to both this repo and the website as the original source. We are aiming for a GPLv3 at this stage however, we will need to determine if any of the code included is able to be licenced as such.įor the time being, this project is deemed to be "private code" and is not available for sharing, redistribution, or inclusion in other works. If an option is not part of the core functionality, then it should be made available via either an preference item accessible by command line or an "advanced/hidden" preference panel.Īt this stage a licencing review is still pending. InsomniaX should have a clean and simple interface.Insomnia KEXT should only be loaded when required by InsomniaX (This ensures InsomniaX remains passive and does not affect the system when rebooted or when InsomniaX is terminated).Insomnia KEXT should be as light weight as possible (KISS).To assist in other developers looking to optimise or add new features to the InsomniaX open source branch, some guidelines have been provided to ensure the essence of InsomniaX remains. Or change the selector in Preferences->Security & Privacy->Generic back to AppStore & Signed Apps (Or even the more strict AppStore Only).Rejoice, InsomniaX should be working and the kext should now be trusted by the system.Launch InsomniaX and enable the option disable lid sleep, fill out the administration password prompt if needed.Disable Gatekeeper: sudo spctl -master-disable.In that case use the following workaround: It seems that on systems with gatekeeper active, the kext module is not correctly loaded, if when the option Disable Lid Sleep is pressed the icon doesn't change you are most likely affected. This small utility is what you will want. Who does not want to use it as a big juke-box or go warwalking? The best looking server ever, especially at about one-inch height. It always has been a missing feature: disabling the sleep mode on a Apple Laptop. ![]() ![]() Is there another way of achieving this? Apple want various peripherals attached for 'clamshell mode' to qualify, and I can't go down that route.InsomniaX - Keep your Mac awake the easy way Description The machine sits in a shared study, whose other user (my housemate) isn't trustworthy enough not to put some sort of sharp item through the screen, get food in the keyboard, or something else that a 29 year old man should have grown out of long ago. This is obviously not ideal for a media box. I downloaded and installed Amphetamine from the App Store and, whilst both apps do a great job and keeping the machine awake whilst the screen is on (something that running caffeinate from terminal did just fine), closing the lid puts the machine to sleep straight away. The app itself seems buggy - clicking on the menu bar icon freezes the system for a good minute before I get the menu, and even though 'Disable Lid Sleep' options are ticked, closing the lid puts the machine to sleep. I had installed InsomniaX to keep the thing awake, but recently it seems to have broken. It lives in the study connected to an external HDD and I use Screen Sharing as and when I need to fiddle with it. My MBP is, for the most part, a media server.
